Cilacap Regency has unique ecosystem of mangrove which are not own by other regency, these are the mangrove forest in the area of Segara Anakan. The Mangrove Forest has various very important functions and must be protected and preserved for the future generation. If the degradation through the used of woods for various purpose not be banned and put into effect through law of conservation, Segara Anakan can become wasted and the beauty of Segara Anakan can be known only through history. It is an imperative that effective law of preservation be created and executed to prevent Mangrove Forest from further degradation.
The main functions of mangrove forest are as the preservation of balance ecosystem, to help reduce the green house effects, preventing erosion, creating the comfortable place of recreation, preserving the biodiversity, protecting the natural habitats for various kinds of unique species.
There are many problems that happen throughout Indonesia where such great natural forest are wasted through deforestation. The exploitation of forest be irresponsible businessmen are the caused of the problems. There are many more intelligent ways to extract the economic benefits of natural forest apart from wood exploitation because there are many unknown species of plants and animals which are yet to be discovered. Unique plant species that can be found only in natural forest can be cultivated to be turn into useful natural medicine which are economically more viable and sustainable to produce.
It is crucial to preserve Mangrove forest in Cilacap regency through various efforts such as planting thousand seeds of mangrove threes, educating the people living in Segara Anakan about the importance of preserving the forest, and preventing exploitation of woods by irresponsible individual through the effective law enactment. If needed, the local organizations of nature lovers in Cilacap can be united and work synergistically with international organizations to preserve the mangrove forest in Segara Anakan. By creating Segara Anakan a place for ecotourism, further protection is made possible. The sustainability of forest protection is possible by creating Segara Anakan as ecotourism destination where the plants and animal special are strictly protected.
Segara Anakan is a unique place of natural beauty that must be preserved for the well being of all people in Cilacap Regency. If this goal can be achieved then all people will benefits. The awareness about the crucial functions of forest which benefited human living environment in various ways must enter into the school curiculum to ensure the effectiveness of the programs. Indeed, the government play significant part in protecting Segara Anakan Forest for the benefits of today generation and future generation. And we all can do our part by spreading through word of mouth that Mangrove Forest in Segara Anakan is our heritage that must preserved and protected for the well being of all people.
