The Prospect of Aquaculture

The aquaculture and hatchery in Cilacap Regency are great business opportunities because at the present time there are many unfulfilled demands of fresh water fishes. There are many sub-districts in Cilacap Regency that can be chosen as good places for aquaculture and hatchery. Seeing these facts, there are great opportunities to invest profitably in aquaculture and hatchery business.
At the present time, the fresh water aquaculture business in Cilacap is still in its infancy. The demands for fresh water fishes are hardly fulfilled because the the fresh water fishes must be imported from another regency such as Tegal and Brebes. The hathery of fresh water fishes are only cultivated in two sub-districts: Majenang and Kesugihan. But these two places of aquaculture cannot fulfilled the increasing demands of fresh water fishes and seeds in Cilacap Regency.
One of that prospect is the aquaculture of Milkfish, which is used as the bait to catch Tuna fish. At the present time, the fishermen who wish to catch Tuna fish, must buy the Milkfish from Tegal and Brebes, while the needs for Milkfish is considered high, about ten tons each day. The aquaculture of Milkfish is a great opportunity because there are only a few aquaculturists who choose to cultivate Milfish in their ponds.
The other commodity that has big potential is fresh water lobster. This commodity is not chosen as profitable venture due to the lack of technical abilities. The market demand for lobster is considered big but cannot be fulfilled by the aquaculturists. The market price of fresh water lobster is good.
There are agriculturists in Yogyakarta who changed their padi field into aquaculture pond by deepening the padi field. In this way the natural habitat of fresh water lobster is created. Fresh water lobsters are growing quickly in natural habitat than in pond made of cement because natural plankton is growing quickly there. This plankton is then consumed by the lobsters as the natural foods.
Fresh water lobsters, if they are professionally cultivated, can be a big business since the market demands are big. There are many places in Cilacap which are highly suitable for the aquaculture of fresh water lobster.
